Meet Fiona:
I have been described as ‘calm, creative and thoughtful’. I seek to offer a safe and supportive space, where people can be honest and open about distressing, stressful and traumatic experiences. Believing that where there is injustice, suffering and oppression there are always stories of resistance, strength and hope.
I have worked as an EMDR Therapist (UK and European accredited) since 2020, been trained as a Systemic Therapy Practitioner since 2019, and am a Registered Mental Health Nurse. I am based in London, and provide online therapy to individuals and groups, in the UK, Europe and S Asia. My work is informed by Systemic therapy, and my speciality is EMDR, an evidence-based approach, found to relieve distress associated with traumatic memories.
I am constantly learning through clients, other professionals and trainings, and my aim is always to get to the root of a problem, working with warmth and in solidarity with each client.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) is a focused therapy that identifies the root cause of a problem (such as insomnia, low self esteem, low mood, panic attacks), finding a way through blocks that keep people stuck and adversely affected by pain. It is effective in the recovery of mental health problems including: post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, phobias, anxiety, depression, grief, abuse and relationship trauma, psychosis and long term chronic health conditions.
EMDR Therapy supports people to: regulate emotions, move beyond anxiety to a state of calm, resolve trauma that is stored in the body, generate positive thinking, and access a natural healing ability that processes symptoms of trauma. Traumas can be one off (eg. a car accident); complex (eg: childhood abuse), recent or historic, life threatening or life restricting (consistently put down or misunderstood).
